Inspired by the vibrant braai culture of South Africa, these fire-kissed meat skewers bring bold, smoky flavors to your grill. A rich marinade infused with Smoked Salt enhances the meat’s natural taste, while the open flame creates the perfect char. Serve with classic South African sides like pap, chakalaka, or grilled mielies for an authentic experience.
Serves: 4
Prep Time: 15 minutes (plus 30 minutes marinating time)
Cook Time: 10-15 minutes
Ingredients:
1 lb (450g) beef, lamb, chicken, or a mix, cut into 1-inch cubes
1 tbsp Smoked Salt
½ tsp black pepper
½ tsp smoked paprika
1 tsp cumin
2 tbsp olive oil
2 cloves garlic, minced
Juice of 1 lemon
8 wooden or metal skewers (soak wooden skewers in water for 30 minutes if using wooden ones)
Instructions:
In a large bowl, combine Smoked Salt, black pepper, smoked paprika, cumin, olive oil, minced garlic, and lemon juice. Add the meat and toss to coat evenly. Cover and let marinate for at least 30 minutes (or up to 2 hours for deeper flavor).
Thread the marinated meat onto skewers, ensuring the pieces are spaced slightly apart to allow for even cooking.
Preheat a grill or braai to medium-high heat. Lightly oil the grates to prevent sticking.
Grill the skewers for 10-15 minutes, turning occasionally, until the meat is charred on the outside and cooked to your preferred doneness.
Remove from the heat and let rest for a couple of minutes before serving.
Serve hot with traditional South African sides like pap, chakalaka, or grilled mielies for a true braai feast.
